Why CPM Has Fully Moved to the Cloud

Futuristic building with binary numbers spherical grid and sky background. Great image to illustrate the concept of future business life--Gartner CPM

From the moment cloud computing was embraced by enterprises, it was clear the days were numbered for on-premises corporate performance management (CPM) software and that the future of CPM would be found in the cloud.

Well, the future is here, officially and unequivocally. Gartner just released its 2017 Magic Quadrant for Cloud Strategic Corporate Performance Management Solutions (SCPM). And for the very first time, Gartner only recognizes vendors of cloud-based solutions in its SCPM Magic Quadrant.

That’s right: On-premises CPM solutions aren’t even on Gartner’s radar anymore.

Enterprises look to the cloud
That’s a hard truth for legacy providers struggling mightily to unmoor themselves, and their customers, from their on-premises pasts. In the past few years, they have felt the earth shift beneath their feet as enterprises look to the cloud for ease of deployment, scalability, cost-effectiveness, and many other advantages. (In fact, recently surveyed CFOs say the biggest advantages of using cloud-based financial planning solutions are collaboration, reduced reliance on IT, and significant cost savings.)

Perhaps this development was foreshadowed last year, when for the first time, Gartner named a cloud-only SCPM provider as a Leader in its 2016 SCPM Magic Quadrant. We were delighted then to be that cloud-only provider, and today we’re proud to report we’ve retained our leadership position in this year’s Magic Quadrant. In fact, when you compare this year’s Magic Quadrant to last year’s, we’re the only Leader to have improved its position, while others—such as SAP—have disappeared entirely from the SCPM Magic Quadrant, and traditional behemoths like IBM have slipped out of the Leaders category.

Adaptive Insights ranks highest in Ability to Execute
In the latest SCPM Magic Quadrant report, Adaptive Insights scored higher than any other vendor in Ability to Execute, which reflects Gartner’s assessment of the Adaptive Suite, our financial health, our ability to effectively sell and set competitive pricing, our track record of responding to market demands and customer needs, our success in marketing and branding, our relationships with customers, and our ability to meet our commitments.

“As a ‘cloud-only’ vendor,” Gartner states, “Adaptive Insights has extensive experience in cloud related customer support, sales and marketing, and product-related areas.” The research firm also cites our our “high customer satisfaction ratings, sales execution, and cloud experience.” In addition, said Gartner, Adaptive Insights’ customers’ survey response ratings “are in the top quartile when considering all combined satisfaction scores.”

On Gartner Peer Insights, Adaptive Insights is ‘the future of finance’
Those findings are mirrored on Gartner’s Peer Insights review site, where Adaptive Insights has amassed 36 customer reviews with an average score of 4.6 (out of 5) from customers—higher than any other company featured in the Leaders category, including Anaplan, Host Analytics, and Oracle. Adaptive Insights ranks highest of all SCPM Leaders Quadrant vendors in every category measured by Peer Insights, including product capabilities, evaluation and contracting, integration and deployment, service and support, and overall experience.

These Peer Insights results are further reinforced in customer reviews, where customers frequently note the completeness of our vision manifested in the features and capabilities of the Adaptive Suite. For instance, one FP&A manager from a services company explained why Adaptive Planning earned a 5-star rating: “They are always one step ahead of the latest industry trends in finance.” Another customer’s assessment of our vision was even more pointed: “Adaptive Insights is the future of finance.”

With more than 3,500 active customers and growing, we believe it’s our commitment to customers and our completeness of vision that have allowed us to retain our leadership spot on Gartner’s map of the SCPM world. We’re proud of that. Innovations abound in our recently announced 2017.2 release of the Adaptive Suite, and they make it easier for customers to manage their business via an active planning approach to FP&A, align finance with operations, and enable every stakeholder to feel ownership in plans, budgets, forecasts, and more.

We’re honored to have earned this recognition from Gartner and from the finance professionals who rely on our solutions to better manage their business. You can count on us to continue advancing our solutions so that you’ll not only realize our vision for CPM, but more importantly, you can realize yours.
