Why being platform agnostic matters

The adaptive Insights Business Planning Cloud has evolved around this philosophy. We realized early on that with the right architecture and integration framework, you can plan and report using any source data you want—from any ERP, GL, HCM, CRM, or other system—and present it in an integrated way that’s easy, intuitive, and seamless. This allows you to easily compare your plan against what really happened or, even better, what is happening now. Integration with third-party solutions has always been a fundamental strength of Adaptive Insights cloud software.

“In the modern era, a closed ecosystem holds no future whatsoever.”

My colleague Bhaskar Himatsingka, who heads product development and direction at Adaptive Insights, a Workday company, wrote those words here nine months ago. His message: Keeping cloud platforms open is just common sense. “Today’s businesses,” he noted, “are built around open systems.”

Last June, after we announced plans to become a Workday company, Himatsingka assured customers everywhere that we had no plans to limit our third-party integration initiatives in any way. And we haven’t. In fact, with the new Business Planning Cloud 2019.1 release, available now, we’ve significantly enhanced our integration with NetSuite ERP.

It’s hard to see how this would be possible without an extensive use of open APIs and an ongoing, committed integration effort. Ours is built, owned, supported, and maintained by Adaptive Insights—and NetSuite integration is an important part of our Business Planning Cloud road map.

NetSuite + Adaptive Insights: Better together

Our native integration with NetSuite is so popular because it enables strategic planning capabilities that can’t easily be achieved with NetSuite alone. Evan Kiely, FP&A manager at PowerSchool, finds the ability to glean insights from ERP data to be a powerful advantage for the education technology platform provider. “The power of the data when we combine Business Planning Cloud and NetSuite ERP has been amazing,” Kiely says. “We can slice and dice the data, giving us insights into our financial and operational KPIs that we didn’t have with just NetSuite.”

The result is that PowerSchool’s teams “can see the benefits of the data through a real-time lens and make better decisions.”

PowerSchool and so many other companies are finding that the ability to analyze ERP data in real time with the Business Planning Cloud does something crucial in the age of urgency: It unlocks business agility.

DocuSign, which offers the world’s #1 e-signature solution as part of the DocuSign Agreement Cloud, unlocks agility daily with the integration. JD Kuchinski, head of corporate FP&A, says it was “extremely easy” to set up the native connection between Adaptive Insights and NetSuite. And once done, the combined solution proved as agile as the business itself. “We can access operational and financial data, as well as metadata from NetSuite—and, if we make a change to our model in Business Planning Cloud, we see it reflected across our different systems,” says Kuchinski.

So much more than data

Data integration lays the groundwork for other capabilities. Cloud-based collaboration is just one—but it’s a big one. Too often NetSuite users create plans by individual departments. Those plans, disconnected from the corporate plan, contain data that should automatically inform the larger plan. With the Adaptive Insights Business Planning Cloud, employees across the company—those closest to the day-to-day business—can understand how the business is doing and where their department fits in. Because in business, everybody plans, so planning should be easy for everybody.

And when decision-makers want to understand the implications of the actions they’re considering, nothing beats a purpose-built planning, reporting, and analytics solution. This is another reason NetSuite and the Business Planning Cloud are better together. By incorporating your latest actual results into the combined solution, you can proactively model multiple scenarios quickly and easily to give your business the ability to course-correct on the fly. In other words, it helps you operate with agility.

When NetSuite users convened in Las Vegas last week for SuiteWorld 2019, many were looking for ways to get the most from their NetSuite implementation. We encourage them to explore how our native NetSuite integration does just that.

They can take it from DocuSign’s J.D. Kuchinski: “The combination of Adaptive Insights and NetSuite gives us the tools we need to better manage our business.”
